International Tax Specialist Group (ITSG) was formed to provide high quality, practical, and creative international tax advice on a worldwide basis. Members join the group only on a "by invitation" basis.
While extensive in scope, ITSG has retained an intimacy among its members, partly by holding an annual conference that all members attend.
Three trends have created the need for an independent network of tax specialists, able to handle a wide range of tax matters in financial centres around the world.
Trends:
- Increased Globalization
International companies are continuing to expand, in order to look for new markets and opportunities. With this comes a demand for international tax services.
- Increased Complexity and Enforcement
Tax authorities around the world are focusing on the international area, reforming existing laws, and bringing forward various anti-avoidance doctrines. At the same time, on the tax compliance front, revenue authorities are becoming increasingly aggressive in investigating international structures and reviewing inter-company transactions. Thus increased complexity and scrutiny creates a demand for assistance in the international tax area.
- Independence and Objectivity
With the increasing constraints placed on auditor independence, clients are often looking for objective and independent professionals to advise them in the international tax area. It is quite appropriate for the company's auditor to review the tax planning which has been put in place, but quite another matter if that firm devises on the tax planning itself and then pronounces judgment on whether or not the planning it initiated is acceptable. Thus there is an increasing trend to "outsourcing" international tax planning work to professionals independent of the audit function and the auditing firm.
The trends which create the demand for international tax services have caused ITSG member firms to form a network of alliances, in order to provide seamless client service of the highest quality across international borders.
Each ITSG member is highly experienced in international tax planning work, having a minimum of generally 15 years or more of experience in the area. Each member is a recognized expert within its own country, and on an international level.
Details on the locations of ITSG members, profiles giving the background of the senior persons in each firm, and a description of the services offered by ITSG member firms are contained in this website.
